Pictured above are the Trylon and Perisphere, which took center stage of the Fair, but there was much more. Enter Television, a device made up of vacuum and cathode-ray tubes that displayed black and white moving images. Better than the movies, you can buy one of these boxes in the near future and watch right in your own living room. Maybe place it next to your radio. Or perhaps you would like to board the cockpit of a real airplane. General Motors displayed their Futurama - 'Democracity'' (pronounced Democra-city) - a city of the future, where super highways allows cars to travel an unbelievable fifty miles an hour and skyscrapers soared to one-half mile heights. Westinghouse planted a time capsule, called the 'Book of Records' to be opened some five-thousand years from now. Whatever you inspirations, the 1939 - 1940 Worlds Fair at New York's Flushing Meadow Park had something for everyone.
The building has dominated the New York City skyline for over sixty-five years and has
been and will remain a landmark of distinction for New York City and the world.
